Although my background is as a pop & rock musician, I teach all styles & abilities, focusing lessons on students' own musical preferences at first to make sure the basics are covered in a way that's interesting and fun. I'm familiar with teaching both adults & children, and hold an enhanced DBS check. You can find out more about me here, or scroll down to find out more about what to expect from drum lessons. All lessons take place online via Skype.
Lessons are available in 1-hour or 30-minute slots. For children under the age of 12, 30-minute lessons are recommended.

Lessons are available for beginners, intermediate, and advanced students, as well as those that find themselves in between! In addition to developing students' skill and confidence on the drum kit, lessons cover reading music and building musicianship. Lessons are also available on music theory for students that wish to understand the nuts & bolts of music for pitched instruments (guitar, piano, the voice, etc.).

My teaching is focused on each student's musical preferences. Depending on the student's ability, new concepts and techniques are introduced by learning songs that interest the student. Once the basics are down, including reading music, a basic command of rudiments, and an understanding of foundational grooves and fills, students are introduced to new styles, ensuring every pupil is well-equipped to play any genre that might be required of a gigging drummer.
Lessons are generally split into technique work and in-context work. If the student already has some experience and is wanting lessons to focus on a specific aspect of their playing (such as Moeller technique, independence, co-ordination, groove, playing in odd time signatures, etc - the list goes on!), I'm happy to work on those specifics.

For experienced students, lessons focusing on a specific aspects of playing are available, from Moeller technique to independence & co-ordination, groove, odd time signatures - the list goes on! I also work with students to create practice plans, developing techniques to get the most out of practice time.

For students wishing to undertake graded exams, I offer lessons following Rockschool (RSL)'s syllabus, including exam preparation and entrance.

First lessons: What to expect

As every student comes to drum lessons with their own experiences and goals, the first step is to discuss your own experiences of learning and listening to music, your goals, and your music taste. Students are also welcome to ask me any questions about my teaching and playing. All students can expect to be playing by the end of the lesson, regardless of any prior experience!
